‘Ovo Girão’ sold 30 million fresh eggs in 2023

In 2023, the Ovo Girão group, recognized in the Region mainly for egg production, sold 30 million fresh eggs.

Of these, 60 percent were produced by the group itself and the remaining 40 percent by other producers.

Of the total eggs sold, 34 percent were produced in a ‘cage free’ system (egg production method in the ground) and 66 percent were produced in enriched cages.

These figures were made known by the regional director of Agriculture and Rural Development, Marco Caldeira, who visited a new investment underway by this company, accompanied by the director of Livestock Development services, Daniel Bravo da Mata.

In a press release, the guardianship highlights that the investment now taking place in Canhas, municipality of Ponta de Sol, aims to “privilege the ‘cage free’ production method, increasing egg production capacity up to 90 percent of the current average consumption in the Region, an objective set in 2021”.

“With this investment, the group intends to double its own production capacity by 2025 and place around 41 million fresh eggs/year on the regional market, without, however, neglecting other future goals, introducing more innovation and increasing dynamics in the sector regional poultry farm, with new projects associated with sustainable egg production”, adds the same note.

For Marco Caldeira, this is an example of a company that has had “a good strategic vision and that has known how to modernize”.

On the other hand, the official mentioned “the good application of community funds” has resulted in “more jobs” and “contributed to the region’s economy”, at the same time that it “helps to contribute to greater independence from the outside world” .
