Monte Palace opens ‘The World begins here!’

‘The World starts here!’ gives its name to the exhibition of modern and contemporary art that will open next Wednesday, May 8th, at 5pm, at Monte Palace Madeira – Jardim Tropical, at a moment that will be attended by Miguel Albuquerque, president of the Regional Government, and businessman José Berardo.

Consisting of a celebration of artistic diversity and a testament to Monte Palace Madeira’s ongoing commitment to the preservation and promotion of the arts, the exhibition, which opens to the public on the 9th, highlights relevant national artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. Among them: Lourdes Castro, Helena Almeida and Ângelo de Sousa and others still active such as Pedro Cabrita Reis, Fernanda Fragateiro and José Loureiro, in addition to the imposing work ‘Coração Independente Vermelho’ by Joana Vasconcelos.

‘The World starts here!’ represents a milestone in Monte Palace’s journey, with the incorporation of an unprecedented collection of modern and contemporary art that includes more than 200 works.

From painting, sculpture, photography, video and installation, there will be much to see and explore, through a comprehensive view of the national and international artistic panorama. Note that the exhibition will occupy two floors of the Monte Palace Madeira Museum, being divided into two sections: ‘The Beginning of the Journey’ and ‘The Discovery of Scale’.

Paulo Neves holds artistic residency

In this context, the artist Paulo Neves was invited to carry out an artistic residency at the site, creating a set of sculptures with redwood wood from a tree in the garden, present in the Museum.

In addition to national artists, the exhibition will also feature works by renowned international artists, such as Willem de Kooning, Ana Mendieta, William Kentridge, among other representatives from different parts of the world.

“This exhibition will not only strengthen the position of Monte Palace Madeira as a renowned cultural destination, but will also contribute to the growth of cultural tourism in the Region”, highlights Monte Palace to JM, which, by opening its doors to this new collection, reaffirms its commitment to continuing to enrich the cultural life of Madeira.

It should be noted that, in addition to the president of the regional executive and José Berardo, the presence of members of the artistic community, local authorities and art enthusiasts is expected at the inauguration.
