Crafted for a new era! We are Madeira’s first & unique artisan-crafted cultured vegan cheese manufactory and located in Ponta do Sol (Shopping-Center Ponta Sol, Shop 14 inside the mall – opening hours of our deli: Fridays 17h00 – 19h00, Saturdays & Sundays 11h00 – 17h00)
We create plant-based cheese alternatives from cashews and almonds, using fermentation cultures and traditional maturing techniques for an exceptionally delicious flavor. We make all cheeses in small batches and put a lot of passion and effort in our production.
Under the slogan “less is more” we only use natural ingredients and avoid unnecessary ones. We steer clear of artificial additives, preservatives, flavorings and colorings. Our products are lactose-free, dairy-free, gluten-free.
Nuts, the base of our vegan cheese, are rich in proteins, essential micronutrients and unsaturated fats. Beyond that, most of our cheese are fermented which means that they contain healthy lactic acid bacteria and fibre that support your gut health. In addition, they have a positive effect on the immune system, cardiovascular system (lower the blood pressure and strengthen the heart and circulation) and can help regulate cholesterol level. They are also well suited for lactose-intolerant people.
During the weekdays we pursue our cheese production and be creative developing new cheese alternatives. It takes at least 48 hours for the simpler cheese varieties such as cream cheese, Feta and Mozzarella, to mature and be ready for consumption. The more complex cheeses, such as Camembert and semi-cured varieties, mature for at least 3 weeks under specific temperatures and humidity to reach perfection and they are flipped almost daily during this period.
Our deli is open weekends for a delightful experience of our tasty cheese, cheese boards, snacks and cake selections. We also run a well selected grocery store filled with vegan delicacies. Many of them are also gluten-free.
All our products are for take away available and we do free delivery to Funchal Fridays (all information on our instagram/facebook account)
We cooperate with restaurants and hotels as e.g. The Cliff Bay (Il Gallo d´Oro & Rose Garden) and Mauros Pizzeria in Funchal. More places will be announced soon.

WHO WE ARE?
Hanna is the founder and cheesemaker, Chris is Hanna´s key support as well as snacks and carrot lox wizard. Hanna and Chris, originally from Germany, embarked on a 13-year journey across Europe due to work commitments, until they found their heart’s home in Madeira.
Since our move to Madeira in December 2022, there was only one thing Hanna was craving for – delectable vegan cheeses with a broader selection. Despite the island’s charming supermarkets and local stores, the options for vegan cheeses are quite limited and they don’t quite capture the essence of the original cheeses. Moreover, these alternatives are often heavily processed and laden with unnecessary artifical additives and preservatives. Faced with this dilemma, Hanna undertook a cheese-making journey of her own. Through numerous experiments and triumphs, she mastered the art of crafting vegan cheeses with impeccable taste and texture. When she shared her creations with friends, both vegan and non-vegan alike, they were astounded by the flavors and quality. Encouraged by their positive feedback, Hanna decided to share her flavorful and high-quality vegan cheesee alternatives with a wider audience, thus beginning the journey of Veganaria Madeira.
